In order to make sure the food bank has all the necessary supplies to provide a wonderful Thanksgiving to those in need, the RCS Honor Society is asking that each class provide a specific type of non-perishable food: Pre-K/Kindergarten/7th grade: Canned Vegetables (corn, sweet potatoes, green beans); 1st Grade/2nd Grade/8th Grade: Gravy (packets, cans, jars);
3rd Grade/ 9th Grade: Dessert Items, (pie filling, etc.) Canned Fruit (pineapples, mandarin oranges, assorted fruit); 4th Grade/10th Grade
Cranberry Sauce, Soup Mixes (mushroom, chicken, cheddar); 5th Grade/11th Grade: Mashed Potatoes; 6th Grade/12th Grade: Stuffing. The collection will -take place from Nov. 7-15. Families should send in items with their students. Members of the public may also drop off donations in the school lobby.
An Unexpected Treat!
While some pumpkins in the Kiwanis Pumpkin Patch were not chosen to go home with elementary students, artists in the Studio Art class decided to give some of them a creative transformation. Ninth grade artists used acrylic paint, yarn, googley eyes, wire and more to transform simple, orange, pumpkins into works of art! "Thank you to the Roscoe Kiwanis for providing pumpkins for RCS students! It was a festive way to get in the Halloween spirit!
Roscoe Central School took part in the NYS Big Apple Crunch last week. At 2 p.m., students, faculty and staff heard apple facts and then took bites of New York-grown apples to celebrate New York State's official fruit. What is your favorite way to eat apples? (See more photos on our Facebook page)
RCS seniors are selling poinsettias and wreaths until Monday, Nov. 7. Poinsettias are $16 each and come in red, white, pink, and red glitter. Mrs. Robinson’s first grade class is participating in the My Favorite Book Community Program this year. My Favorite Book is a gift volume given to 6-year-old children. The book emphasizes making good choices and meaningful character lessons such as, good manners, being responsible, friendship, staying healthy, following rules, protecting our environment, staying safe and gratitude. Students in English 8 worked collaboratively to write about survival in the book Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. One student focused on the terrifying crash of the B24, another student described the men's struggles at sea, and the third student explained how the men used grit, wit, and resilience to survive at sea for 47 days during World War II.
1,2,3 Andres, a Bethel Woods Arts Performance, visited RCS earlier this month. Students in Pre-K through second grade enjoyed singing and dancing as they interacted with Spanish, English, and sign language. The students and teachers had a fabuloso time!

RCS eighth graders recently worked in groups looking to look at primary sources to discover the different immigrant experiences in the late 1880.
The Kiwanis Club created its annual pumpkin patch near the outdoor classroom space at Roscoe Central School on Friday, Oct. 21. Elementary students were able to go out and "pick" their own pumpkin. Thank you, Kiwanis, for continuing this wonderful tradition. See more photos on our Facebook page.

Third graders used their creativity in writing and art to express their views on "What should my teacher be for Halloween?"
The PreK class enjoyed their fall scavenger hunt. They went around the school looking for fall items on their list. They found acorns, bugs, birds, pumpkins, and lots of different colored leaves.
Third graders became doctors and "performed surgery" on arrays to explore the distributive property of multiplication.
The Class of 2023 will host an exhibition basketball game featuring the ABA Northeast Conference's Catskill Cardinals vs. the Raptors at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. The Cardinals hosted a series of basketball clinics for elementary and middle school students at Roscoe and Livingston Manor earlier this year.
There is a suggested donation of $2 per person. Concessions will be available.
Students in fifth and sixth grades went on a field trip to Kelder’s Farm on Friday. They got to pick apples, pumpkins, feed animals and learn about what goes into farm to table products. See more photos on our Facebook page.

Roscoe Central School fifth graders attended the recent Sullivan County BOCES Expo in Liberty. There there were able to take part in Halloween themed events as well as see all that BOCES had to offer.
Congratulations to RCS Math teacher Pam Carpenter, who was among the Sullivan County educators presented an Outstanding Educator Award during the Sullivan County School Board Association's awards dinner earlier this week. Also honored from Roscoe was board member and former teacher Lynn Wachter, who passed away in June.
