The Studio Art class are using the kiln for an unusual project: Bottle Slumping!
Students are recycling glass bottles and then cleaning them. The bottles are put in the kiln where they will melt at temps up to 1475 degrees. Once they have become molten glass, the kiln starts to cool and the bottles turn back to glass, but they will be flat, in the shape of the bottle that was melted. SPOILER ALERT: Students will decorate the bottles with floral picks, ribbons and paint and give them as holiday gifts. These melted bottles are great conversation pieces and can be used for cheese boards, cookies and wall decorations. See our Facebook page for photos of the process.

Students in PreK through fourth grade art have been busy as elves, making winter ornaments! PreK made penguins on icebergs; kindergarten made gingerbread cookies; first grade made pinecone snow owls; second grade made gnomes; third grade made tongue depressor snowmen; and the fourth grade made winter mittens and decorated them with glitter glue. If you are in the building for the winter concerts, come take a look at these festive and creative ornaments. Students will be taking their projects home before winter break.

Students in PreK through fourth grade learned how to shade with drawing pencils. Students used a 5H pencil to do light drawing and shading. Next, they used a HB pencil to darken their drawing. Last, they used a 4B pencil to make really dark colors that stand out. They used their fingers to smudge so that their drawings looked smooth; and some used an eraser to make highlights. PreK shaded pumpkins; kindergarten shaded gourds; first grade shaded an oak leaf and acorn; second grade shaded gooseneck gourds; the third grade shaded apples; and the fourth grade shaded Indian corn. They made amazing artworks with drawing pencils.Their drawings will be on display in the hallway for just a little longer, then they will make way for winter tree paintings. See more photos of their work on our Facebook page.

A tasty and colorful spread was prepared for the Board of Education Appreciation night in October by students in the Home & Careers, Baking & Pastry Arts, and Basic Foods classes.

Third graders read the book "Balloons Over Broadway," written by Melissa Sweet, which tells the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. The class then designed their own balloon floats and paraded around the elementary wing. See more photos on our Facebook page.

Eighth grade Home & Careers students recently designed and built their edible cars for this year's Incredible Edible Car Race. Pictures of the completed cars and race will be posted later. See more pre-race photos on our Facebook page.

Computer Class used artificial intelligence to conduct a virtual
orchestra. The Google program uses a webcam for visual sensing allowing students to conduct the orchestra with their hands instead of the mouse!

Baking & Pastry Arts students tried their hands at dessert plating earlier this week, taking a simple brownie and enhancing its presentation using color, design and texture. See more of their mouth-watering desserts on our Facebook page.

PreK and their families disguised turkeys to help get them through Thanksgiving safe and sound. Check them out.

Happy Thanksgiving to our Blue Devils! We hope you enjoy your holiday.

The Roscoe Central School Class of 2023 will host five games of the American Basketball Association’s Catskill Cardinals in the gymnasium.
Games will be at 3 p.m. Saturdays, Nov. 26, Dec. 10, Jan. 7, Jan. 28 and Feb. 11.
There is a suggested donation of $3 per person to enter, and concessions will be available. Proceeds benefit the senior class.

The fifth graders are using their math skills to plan a Thanksgiving dinner party for 10 guests. They must choose items to serve, explain why they chose those items, and calculate the cost of how much food they will need. The real challenge is that they can't exceed their small budget of $100.

Our Kindergartners celebrated the 50th Day of school last week with a day of all things "50" (including the 1950s). See more photos on our Facebook page
