
The third and fourth grade students spent the day Thursday, June 9, at Museum Village in Monroe to learn about life in the Hudson Valley in the 19th century.


Roscoe Central School celebrated its eighth grade students during a ceremony Tuesday, June 7. The members of the class were recognized for their accomplishments for this year before they officially become high schoolers. Congratulations Class of 2026!

On Tuesday, June 7, Sullivan 180 hosted its Empowering a Healthier Generation Celebration at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. The purpose of the Empowering a Healthier Generation Program is to engage Sullivan County School Districts in promoting health and wellness among students, staff, parents and their communities. Roscoe received a $500 Turtle Award for its work on nutrition, including: The farm to school program with Cornell Cooperative Extension; the edible garden with Sullivan Renaissance; and Leo, the cafeteria manager, who works closely with CCE and Livingston Manor to enhance farm to school efforts and nutrition in cafeterias.

Mrs. Wagner, a counselor at RCS, spoke to our fifth grade Home and Careers students about setting up and running a mobile hot dog business. They were very interested in all if the intricacies of being an entrepreneur in the food service industry.


The sixth graders started a fun and exciting unit on sharks last month. They watched interesting shark video clips, did their own research, and used news articles to investigate the frequency of shark attacks over the years. To finish the unit, shark enthusiast Bryan Thomas visited the classroom. He used a slideshow to show students exciting pictures, and told them interesting facts about sharks. He answered all of the students' questions and taught the sixth graders so much about sharks! We hope he can come back again next year.




Dozens of families showed up to support our modified, JV and varsity on Thursday, June 2, during Roscoe's annual Athletics Award Banquet in the auditorium. Congratulations to all of our Blue Devils!


Congratulations to DARE Officer Deputy Beebe and the fifth grade students at Roscoe Elementary School for completing 10-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program. A ceremony was held Thursday, June 2, in the cafeteria for the graduates of the program. DARE is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches our fifth graders life lessons and valuable tools to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. DARE Officer Beebe taught the students these lifelong skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives. Students also learn skills such as effective communication, ways to be good citizens, safely reporting bullying and stress management. DARE is the bridge to building trust and positive community-police relations offering students the opportunity to gain a trustworthy role model, develop a positive attitude toward law enforcement personnel, and acquire greater respect for the law.





David Bodenstein and Regina Murphy from Mike Preis Insurance spoke to our seniors Thursday, June 2, about the all-important insurance options and decisions they will be making as they become independent adults.


Roscoe's Alaniz X. Ruiz Gongora was among those recognized at the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association's Senior Scholar Athletes awards breakfast Thursday, June 2, at Kuhl's Highland House in Middletown.
Alaniz carries a 91.86 grade point average and is ranked sixth in his class. He has played football, basketball, track and baseball at the varsity level. He is also a member of the National Honor Society. He also volunteers at the Roscoe Food Pantry.
On the athletic fields, he earned football all-section honors and All-Democrat honors twice, was twice named an All-BCANY basketball player, as well as earned All-Democrat honors in basketball, and he has been named all-tournament selection four times.
After graduation, he plans on entering the workforce.

On May 24, Sullivan BOCES held its thirty-seventh annual Academic Achievement Celebration at Sullivan BOCES to honor the county’s top students of the class of 2022. The superintendents of schools, principals, board presidents and Sen. Mike Martucci, attended the event. Sen. Martucci, was the guest speaker. The celebration honors the top 4% of the current graduating class. At Roscoe, valedictorian Rebecca Stickle and salutatorian Annabelle Creamer were honored.

A special thank you to The Catskill Fly Fishing Center & Museum for hosting a youth program for RCS students on Wednesdays in May. Mila, Hunter, Skyler, Levi, and Cole had a great time. With the help of instructor, Matt Hart, they learned about the fly rod, practiced casting, investigated bugs in the stream, and put all of this together for some fishing experience.




Seventh and eighth graders recently visited Bethel Woods where they toured the museum, watched films, visited the site of the Woodstock Concert, and made buttons to represent their beliefs and interests.





Student artists throughout Sullivan County participated in the PK - 12 Art Show sponsored by BOCES. The "in person" Art Show was held at Bethel Woods in March. At that time, artists from the community judged the 7-12 artwork and awarded Artists Choice ribbons. From RCS, Zachary Narozny won for his Contour Line Drawing of Seattle! 9-12 Students were invited to see the artwork at Bethel Woods, and they were able to vote for the Student Choice Award. From RCS, Nevaeh Bush won for her Gray Space Sculpture! If you weren't able to see the Art Show at Bethel Woods, it is now "Digital" for you to enjoy online!

Roscoe will host its 2021-22 Athletics banquet for all modified, JV and varsity athletes at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 2, in the auditorium. Athletes should dress formally. All student-athletes who participated in LMCS and RCS-based teams and their families are invited to attend the buffet-style ceremonies. All athletes attend for free, while their guests are $5 per person. Please note for merged programs, the school the athletic team was based out of determines where the awards will be given. For example, if your child played varsity football (based out of Roscoe), award recognitions will take place at RCS while acknowledgement of participation will be done at LMCS. What's the buzz?
The second grade recently had a presentation of bee-keeping in the new outdoor classroom. The space was designed for all ages to engage in outdoor lessons and activities.





As part of the School Climate Transformation Grant, we are asking you to please take a few minutes to complete the following survey by no later than June 17 (link to the survey: https://forms.gle/v65y3ciDULouoRx77 ). All responses are anonymous and no email addresses will be collected upon submission. The responses from the survey will help us plan and use grant funding in the best way to support the needs of our district. We will be doing this yearly throughout the remainder of the grant to gain insight on the programs we are implementing and the impact they are having on the climate of our school. On Saturday, students from the Roscoe band program participated in the NYSSMA Solo Festival held at Valley Central High School. The students prepared a solo piece, scales and sight reading. The students all scored in the excellent and outstanding categories. A huge thank you to Dr. Kauth for preparing our students and a big congratulations to our students. We are so proud of all your hard work!
