The sixth graders started a fun and exciting unit on sharks last month. They watched interesting shark video clips, did their own research, and used news articles to investigate the frequency of shark attacks over the years. To finish the unit, shark enthusiast Bryan Thomas visited the classroom. He used a slideshow to show students exciting pictures, and told them interesting facts about sharks. He answered all of the students' questions and taught the sixth graders so much about sharks! We hope he can come back again next year.

Congratulations to DARE Officer Deputy Beebe and the fifth grade students at Roscoe Elementary School for completing 10-week Drug Abuse Resistance Education Program. A ceremony was held Thursday, June 2, in the cafeteria for the graduates of the program. DARE is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches our fifth graders life lessons and valuable tools to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. DARE Officer Beebe taught the students these lifelong skills to help them lead safe and healthy lives. Students also learn skills such as effective communication, ways to be good citizens, safely reporting bullying and stress management. DARE is the bridge to building trust and positive community-police relations offering students the opportunity to gain a trustworthy role model, develop a positive attitude toward law enforcement personnel, and acquire greater respect for the law.
