The pre-k class took advantage of the bright sun Thursday to have some fun with shadows.
Science took center stage at the Board of Education meeting last month when Mr. Pantilieris' Living Environment ninth graders presented their plant and animal cell projects.
The class of 2028 will host a Valentine Dance for students in fifth through ninth grades from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10. Admission is $6.
Thursday morning, Mrs. Bullis, with the help of Principal Mrs. Phillips, led our elementary students in a song and dance about Groundhog Day. The students and staff present were then able to vote of if they would prefer the groundhog see its shadow (and have six more weeks of winter), seen in the photo of a small group, or have an early spring, the photo of the larger group. Although winter had the fewest votes (20 to "a lot"), Punxsutawney Phil sided with winter, as well.

Holiday Mountain Ski and Fun Park near Monticello is offering special rates for Roscoe Central School students and staff on Fridays throughout the winter season.
Lift tickets and ski rentals are $19 each between 3 and 8 p.m. Snowboard rentals will be $25 and one-hour group lessons are $30. Snow tubing tickets valid from 4 to 5:30 p.m. to 5:30 to 7 p.m. will be $19. Anyone snow tubing must be at least 42 inches tall. Group lessons and snow tube tickets must be purchased in advance by calling 845-796-3161.
No personal belongs or outside food or drinks are allowed in the cafeteria. To get the reduced rates, a Roscoe ID must be shown.

The Class of 2028 is hosting a family double feature holiday movie night Friday, Jan. 20, in the auditorium. Doors will open at 5:40 p.m. "Ratatouille" will be shown at 6 p.m., followed by "Legends of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole" at 8 p.m. Admission is $5 per person and will include a drink and a bag of popcorn. There will also be a bake sale. Parents and guardians are required to stay with their children in grades Pre-K through fourth. Attendees are encouraged to bring a blanket and pillow. Those who wish to attend must RSVP by Jan. 19 to their homeroom teacher, with the names and grades of the children attending, the names of the adults attending, a cellphone number for an adult attending, the total number in the family attending, and if the family will stay for both movies.

Earlier this winter, Roscoe Central School students Aiden Johnson and Athena Niforatos placed 187 wreaths on veterans graves at the Riverview Cemetery as part of Wreaths Across America. A ceremony took place at the Westfield Flats cemetery on Main street of Roscoe. Pictured are Aiden and his mother, Katrina, and Athena and her parents Cheri and Tasse. Roscoe's Wreaths Across America campaign also honored veterans in the Roscoe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Students in seventh grade general music perfected their rhythmic reading and performing skills by creating Rhythm Hopscotch Games. It may have been a little loud and chaotic but it was a fun learning experiment! See more photos on our Facebook page.
Roscoe Central School will host the second annual Fred Ahart Games on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 13 and 14. All contributions will support the Coach Fred Ahart Foundation.
Roscoe JV girls basketball will take on Monticello at 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13, followed by Sullivan West JV Boys vs. Livingston Manor at 6:30 p.m.
The following day, Monticello Varsity Boys will take on Sullivan West at 11 a.m. with Seward Varsity Boys vs Livingston Manor at 12:45 p.m. and Tri-Valley Varsity Boys vs. Roscoe at 2:15 p.m.
All games will be livestreamed at https://www.roscoe.k12.ny.us/page/rcs-streams and on the RCS Athletics Youtube Channel.
Concessions and apparel sales will be available during all games.
Two teams of baking students designed their gingerbread houses, created templates, mixed their dough, cut out and baked the segments, assembled and finally decorated these fun confections.

Roscoe third graders recently got to read their favorite holiday story to their classroom elf.
Ms. Beckley (Hinkley) & Mrs. K Davidson’s classes have created a program called the “Reading Sidekicks” in which students from both classes get together biweekly to develop their reading skills together and share some of their favorite stories. The classes have met three times so far and have had a great time playing ice breakers to get to know each other, engaging in Thanksgiving activities, and reading, discussing what we’ve read, and making connections to the text. The Spanish 1 class has been working on a House/Home Unit. Students are learning family and pets, the rooms and items of a home, and household chores. They are finishing the unit by playing their version of the board game Clue. Students are solving the mystery of which family member completed which chore in which room.
