Re-establishes policy committee, reviews budget, considers livestreaming
The Rockland Central School District Board of Education met Wednesday, April 9, in a special meeting.
During the meeting, the board voted to re-establish the policy committee. The committee will be meeting to review those policies required by law and bring them back to the whole board for review, discussion and adoption at the future meeting. The policy will be an open committee with board members taking turns reviewing policies. No policy committee meetings have been scheduled yet.
The board also reviewed several different budget scenarios, with different tax levy proposals and voted 5-2 for the superintendent and business manager to draft a proposed budget for review and adoption at the April 22 meeting that includes all current programs and staff and utilizes one-third of the incentive aid money and some fund balance to help offset the tax levy.
They also discussed moving forward with livestreaming the board meetings and will be approving a resolution at the next meeting to put that in place for all future meetings.
Superintendent John Evans also addressed some concerns regarding missing comments in the current Shaping Our Future ThoughtExchange. He explained that the system auto moderates and removes from public view any entries that mention names, are off topic or deemed inappropriate. The comments will be seen by the administration and the board when the results are reviewed.
The ThoughtExchange will be open through April 18 and is available at https://tejoin.com/scroll/897595391.
The next board meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, in the Roscoe gymnasium.
